De Ocampo out at least 6 weeks with herniated disc after gym accident

Prayers for our brother, Ranidel. On the way to the hospital now to have an MRI on his back after tweaking it and losing mobility. Let’s all pray for a good prognosis.

Talk ‘N Text forward Ranidel de Ocampo was taken to a hospital on Sunday after “tweaking” his back and “losing mobility” during workout, according to assistant coach Josh Reyes.

Reyes posted a video of de Ocampo on a stretcher with the whole team and medical staff around him just outside the Moro Lorenzo Gym inside the Ateneo de Manila campus where the Tropang Texters hold their training session.

“Prayers for our brother, Ranidel. On the way to the hospital now to have an MRI on his back after tweaking it and losing mobility. Let’s all pray for a good prognosis,” Reyes posted on his Instagram account.

Texters head coach Jong Uichico told INQUIRER.net that de Ocampo hurt his back while lifting weights.

“He hurt his back while lifting weights. Malalaman natin mamaya kung ano ang sabi ng doctor,” Uichico wrote in a text message.

Chot Reyes, de Ocampo’s former Talk ‘N Text and national team coach, said that the Gilas Pilipinas mainstay has a herniated disc and will be out for six to eight weeks.

“No fracture. Herniated disc. No surgery required, but out for 6-8 weeks #PrayersforRDO,” Reyes posted on his Twitter account @coachot Sunday night.
