‘Historic day:’ Letran suspends afternoon classes on Tuesday ahead of NCAA Finals

Rallying behind its men’s basketball team, Letran has suspended its Tuesday’s classes from 2:30 p.m. onwards to throw its full support for the Knights, who are aiming to win their first NCAA title in 10 years later in the afternoon at Mall of Asia Arena.

The suspension of afternoon classes was announced Monday by the school’s executive vice president Rev. Fr. Boyd R. Sulpico.

“October 27 is poised to be a historic day for the whole Letran community. Tomorrow, the Letran Knights will face the San Beda Red Lions in Game Two of the Finals of the 91st Season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association,” the letter read as posted on the school’s official Twitter account.

The Knights took the Finals opener in a thriller, 94-90, marking the first time since 2009 that the Red Lions, who are seeking their sixth straight crown, are trailing in a championship series.

The school has also planned a thanksgiving celebration and bonfire after the game in case the Knights get the job done and nail their 17th senior’s basketball crown.

Students, faculty members and alumni are also reminded to “maintain a benign behavior” during the game after a scuffle broke out between the two rival schools’ faithfuls inside the MOA Arena following Letran’s victory in Game 1 last Friday.
