PLDT sinks Philippine Navy, secures V-League Final Four

A depleted PLDT Home Ultera swung the anchor on Philippine Navy, 25-20, 20-25, 25-13, 25-13, to take a Final Four slot in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference Saturday at San Juan Arena.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas sealed the Ultra Fast Hitters’ third win in four games with a down-the-line hit that bounced off two Lady Sailors.

PLDT’s only hiccup was its poor second set showing that allowed Navy to momentarily gain momentum and forced the Ultra Fast Hitters to play outside their game.

“We blew it,” PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb said of his team’s effort in the second set. “We were down 7-3 then we tied it then it all went downhill for us.”

Diminutive hitter Ella de Jesus put PLDT on match point, 24-13, with back-to-back service aces.

Pontillas and Janine Marciano led the PLDT with 15 points apiece while Rysabelle Devanadera and Gretchel Soltones added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Pau Soriano led the 2-3 Navy with 17 points while Lilet Mabbayad added 12.

PLDT owned the service game with 12 aces while Navy only had two.
