Ateneo, NU clash as UAAP Season 78 volleyball opens Jan. 31

Venues may have been a headache for the start of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament, but its opening day is expected to be a slam-bang affair.

The anticipated Season 78 is finally set to unfurl on Jan. 31 at San Juan Arena with a thrilling double header featuring powerhouse teams in Ateneo and National U and up-and-coming squads in University of the Philippines and University of the East.

The Lady Eagles and the Lady Bulldogs square off in the main game at 4 p.m. following the clash between the Lady Fighting Maroons and the Lady Warriors, in a schedule released on ABS-CBN Sports’ website.

De La Salle, meanwhile will debut against Far Eastern U in the next playing date on Feb. 3 while University of Santo Tomas will face Adamson University in the 2 pm game, but no playing venue has been set.

Organizers likewise have yet to find venues for the games on Feb. 6 and Feb. 13.

Rivals Ateneo and La Salle, last year’s finalists, will meet for the first time this season on Feb. 27 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
