‘Always ready’ Gequillana delivers for Ateneo

It looks like Ateneo head coach Tai Bundit found another jewel in the rough in his roster.
After utilizing the best of sophomore Maddie Madayag in the first round, the dancing Thai now put in third-year Kim Gequillana to complement the explosive Alyssa Valdez.

Gequillana who is usually put in to score aces was front and center with Valdez and Madayag in the attack as she poured nine points on her own.
“Well every game naman ready naman ako na ipapasok ako ni coach Tai kasi sinasabihan niya ako lagi na mag warm up ako and be ready in case may mangyari,” Gequillana said Wednesday.
Her performance also came in opportune timing as Ateneo snapped its two-game losing streak and swept the struggling National University.

With Gequillana playing heavy minutes for the defending champions, the Lady Bulldogs could not just focus their defense on Valdez.
“Baka isang factor din yun [na nagulat yung NU], usually taga serve lang po ako, pero sa game na ito naka ikot ako sa front, I guess yun ginawa ko best ko at gumana talaga,” Gequillana said. “It worked and I’m really happy.”
