Grizzlies waive Chalmers after tearing Achilles

The Memphis Grizzlies announced that they are waiving their back-up point guard Mario Chalmers on Friday (Manila time).
Citing an article from Bleacher Report, the organization has decided to cut ties with Chalmers who, was recently ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles earlier against the Boston Celtics.
The team is expected to sign another free agent in Chalmers’ place.
“He has been an important part of our success this season, both coming off the bench and when called upon as a starter,” said Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace. “But with Mario’s season-ending injury and our already depleted roster, it became necessary to free up a roster spot.”
Meanwhile, the former Kansas Jayhawk used Twitter to address the Memphis loyal fan base. He wrote: I wanna thank all my fans for the good well wishes. Just a little minor setback for a major comeback.

Chalmers averaged a modest 10.8 points and 3.8 assists in 55 games with the team.
Memphis is currently sitting at fifth place of the Western conference standings, but the team is still reeling from a platoon of injuries to their key players. Marc Gasol, the team’s premiere center, will also miss the rest of the season with a broken foot, while Zach Randolph, Mike Conley and Chris Andersen have also missed games due to some minor injuries.
