National U holds off testy La Salle in PCABL opener
UAAP champion National University sustained its hot form by downing La Salle, 58-46, to start its title bid in the Smart-Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL) Dickies Women’s Cup recently in Quezon City.
With reigning UAAP MVP Afril Bernardino at the helm, the Lady Bulldogs got off to a hot start, racing to a 21-9 lead before surviving the Lady Archers’ spirited third quarter comeback.
La Salle pulled to within 46-42 at the end of the third quarter but it proved to be their last stand as the Lady Bulldogs clamped down on Lady Archers, holding them to just four points in the payoff period.
Bernardino led the undefeated UAAP champion with 19 points while Rose Sison and Germma Miranda chipped in 9 and 8 points, respectively.
Adamson-Mighty ripped Far Eastern University, 73-59, in the other game.
