THE NEXT international volleyball star from the country would probably be a setter.

They don’t usually score, and neither do they regularly hit the floor defense, but they hold the key to scoring.

With that in mind, the Philippine Superliga brought in world-class Korean coach Kim Keung-un to hold a five-day seminar for setters starting tomorrow at Arellano University-LVPI Volleyball Center in Pasay City.

“The Filipinos have that high volleyball IQ, we only need to improve by learning from others,” said PSL president Tats Suzara.

He said the seminar will help the Filipino playmakers “improve passing accuracy, read defenses and make quick decisions.”

It was the first ever seminar specifically for setters. Chatchai Dokmai, coach of EST Cola of Thailand, had previously stated that if ever he will recruit a talent from the Philippines, he would look for setters.

Expected to attend the seminar are setters from all PSL clubs and those from the collegiate leagues.

“We believe in the ability of our setters and we are optimistic that a seminar like this can bring out the best in them,” added Suzara.

The seminar was in cooperation with the Asian Volleyball Confederation and the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc.

The PSL also recently held a VIS-Data Volley Project Seminar for coaches and team statisticians.
