Valdez, Bali Pure upbeat despite Game 2 loss to Pocari

Bali Pure failed to take Game 2 of the Shakey’s V-League semifinals against rival Pocari Sweat last Saturday at San Juan Arena, and the Water Defenders’ did not make any excuses for the loss.

Team captain Alyssa Valdez, along with playing coach Charo Soriano, acknowledged their team’s errors during the game, such as touch nets, services and blocks as the key to their demise.

Valdez played all throughout the five sets for the Water Defenders, forcing her opponents to keep up with her attacks.

“This time around, it was really our errors, even mental errors, during the fifth set,” said Soriano, admitting that Pocari was the team who wanted the win more.

Looking at the positive side, Soriano centered her attention on going back to the basics. “We were getting touches but we weren’t controlling the ball as much,” she said.

Slowing down the pace for Game 3 and making sure that it is their team’s tempo they are following and not the opponent’s are the top priorities for the playing coach.

“We’re gonna adjust as a team, we’re gonna look and think positive for Monday’s game,” said Valdez, with a smile on her face.

The three-time UAAP MVP admitted to not being able to think quickly while on the court, lessening her chances of scoring.

Despite falling behind Pocari, Valdez and Soriano chose to keep their heads up and focus on how to better themselves for game three of the semifinals.

“I really believe in the team. I know they can do it,” said Soriano.

“I’m just really happy, I’m just really glad na naglaro ako for Shakey’s V League and to be teammates with them. I’m going to contribute as much as I can,” said Valdez. Mikaela Calilong/Philippine Daily Inquirer trainee
