After going 4-of-4 from three on Thursday, Jimmy Alapag inched closer to a career milestone, just six three-points away from surpassing Allan Caidic for the most three-pointers made in PBA history.

“It’s a huge honor to be mentioned with, who I feel, is the greatest shooter our country has ever seen,” said the 38-year-old playmaker. “He’s set the bar for shooters in our country and I’m proud to be in that same class.”

Alapag has made 1,237 treys so far, just five shy of tying Caidic’s record of 1,242.

But more importantly, his blazing sniping, which all came in the fourth quarter, allowed Meralco to secure the 106-91 Game 2 victory over TNT to level their best-of-5 semifinals series in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.

“We needed it. We’re up against a championship team and if anyone knows that, I do. But our team has been resilient the whole conference and it has grown up a lot. All we’ve done is even up the series and all the
focus shifts to Game 3,” he said.

With the Bolts dealing only the KaTropa’s second defeat this conference, Alapag shared that the victory gave his side enough confidence that they can step up and knock off the number one-seed.

“TNT has been playing great the entire conference, but I think we made great adjustments for tonight and now, we’ll look at the tapes and see what we can do. Our game on Saturday becomes the most important game of the series,” he said.

And if things go his way anew, Alapag could also snare the feat on Game 3.

But the former PBA Most Valuable Player said that it’s the least of his concerns.

“If it happens, it’s a great accomplishment considering what Allan Caidic has done throughout his career, but it’s secondary,” he said. “My whole focus is what I can do to help our team get Game 3.”
