James Yap sad to leave Star, but excited to play for Rain or Shine

James Yap has bid farewell to the only team he’s played for so far in his pro career.

In a post on his Twitter account, the two-time league Most Valuable Player expressed sadness over leaving Star but nonetheless welcomed the big change.

“Nakakalungkot man pero gusto ko mgthank u sa purefoods sa tiwala & pagalaga sakin. Im excited 2 play sa ROS. Sa lahat, God bless & kitakits!” Yap (@jcy18) said.

He also had a lengthy post on his Instagram account, thanking the Star organization for the “wonderful ride.”

Yap was sent to Rain or Shine for guard Paul Lee in a blockbuster one-on-one deal which was approved late
Thursday afternoon.

The former UE Red Warrior left the Purefoods franchise after 11 years which saw him win seven titles, including a Grand Slam under coach Tim Cone in the 2013-14 season.

Drafted second in 2004, Yap used to average 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.

However, last season’s disastrous campaign saw the Escalante, Negros Occidental native set a career-low average of 11.6 markers on top of 2.9 boards and 1.3 dimes.

In Rain or Shine, Yap can revive his career as he banners the team’s new chapter after the departure of coach Yeng Guiao.
