Iglupas boots out Russian, eyes final versus Taiwanese

Khim Iglupas destroyed Mariya Polischuk of Russia, 6-3, 6-1, yesterday to progress to the semifinals of the Phinma-PSC international juniors championships Week 1 at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The 18-year-old will gun for a final slot against sixth seed Chang Ting-pei of Chinese Taipei, a 6-1, 6-1 winner over No. 3 Shiho Tsukuda of Japan.

But the other Filipino bet, Shaira Rivera, bowed to Taiwanese No. 2 Lee Kuan Yi, 2-6, 2-6.

In boys’ doubles, Filipinos Alberto Lim Jr. and Diego Garcia stunned Keonho Shin of Korea and Taiyo Tamanaka of Japan, 6-4, 6-3 to make the quarterfinals.
