Better defense, cohesion key to Globalport’s improvement
With a new system in place, GlobalPort hopes to bounce back after forgettable runs in the import-laden conferences.
And the Batang Pier are putting more premium on defense in an effort to become deadlier this upcoming PBA season.

With Romeo and backcourt partner Stanley Pringle leading the way, GlobalPort torched the league en route to
the franchise’s first ever semifinals appearance in the 2016 Philippine Cup.
But the defensive end suffered and the Batang Pier failed to reach the finals, which was the start of their downfall.
Article continues after this advertisementRomeo is optimistic that the team will respond to the system put in place by team consultant Franz Pumaren and coach Johnedel Cardel.
“Marami pa kaming dapat i-improve as a team at kailangan tuloy-tuloy yung improvement namin every game,” he said.
Doing so, however, entails a better cohesion, with veterans JR Quiñahan, Nino Cañaleta, Mike Cortez, and
Mick Pennisi, as well as rookie Von Pessumal joining the team this year.
“Dapat mag-jell kami agad para mas maganda ang takbuhin ng team,” said Romeo.
