Southwoods storms ahead
Edmund Yee fired a two-under-par 69 worth 38 points to boost Manila Southwoods to an opening 134 and a four-point lead over defending champion San Miguel-Northern Cement at the start of the centerpiece Fil Championship division of the Fil-Am Invitational Seniors tournament.
Yee, a former Santo Tomas Glowing Goldie in the UAAP, mixed three birdies against a bogey at up-and-down Camp Jonh Hay in Baguio as the Carmona-based par-busters showed their preparedness to win it all this year.
Former pro Raul Minoza had 34 and Southwoods drew 31s from South Koreans Chang Duk-jung and Kui Sun-moon. San Miguel-Northern Cement was led by the 33s of Jingy Tuason and Chito Laureta. Touted Eddie Bagtas and Benjie Sumulong added 32s for San Miguel. —Musong R. Castillo
