Maroons ground Bombers; Knights up

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines downed Jose Rizal University, 80-71, to tie its victim at third place in Group B action yesterday of the FilOil-Flying V Hanes Preseason Premier Cup at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Mike Silungan shot 22 points and Nigerian rookie Alinko Mbah had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Maroons.

Earlier, Kevin Alas scattered 23 points as Letran downed St. Benilde , 87-76, for its second win in five Group B games.

Arellano halted a four-game losing skid by nipping winless Lyceum, 71-70.
