FEU took a 2-1 set lead over Ateneo and all the Lady Tamaraws had to do was score 25 more points.

They only scored 16 in the ensuing set and the Lady Eagles eventually finished things off in five sets, 25-19, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11, in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.

“We blew it and it’s very disappointing because we were so close,” said Lady Tamaraws senior Bernadeth Pons in Filipino Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan. “We almost won it but in the end we still lost.”

Pons led all FEU scorers with 18 points while Toni Rose Basas and Jerrili Malabanan added 15 and 13 points, respectively.

FEU managed just 38 points off spikes, compared to Ateneo’s 52.
