Dragons slay alab five in overtime

/ 01:25 AM March 07, 2017

There seems to be no end to Alab Pilipinas’ inconsistent ways in the 2017 Asean Basketball League.

Filipino-American swingman Joshua Monzun exploded for 25 points as Westport Malaysia Dragons stunned
Alab Pilipinas, 101-91, in overtime Sunday night for only its fourth win of the season at Santa Rosa Gymnasium in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Just two days after ending a two-game slide with a 74-70 away win over Saigon Heat in Ho Chi Minh City, the Filipinos returned home, looking to gain ground on the Singapore Slingers in the race for second spot and homecourt advantage in the semifinals.

But while Ray Parks came out of his shooting slump to finish with 27 points, Alab once again ran out of steam when it mattered.

FEATURED STORIES

Parks willed Alab back into the game to force overtime at
82-all, but struggled down the stretch with Munzon, the Dragons’ heritage import, doing damage in the extra period.
Alab’s new acquisition, Kiefer Ravena, watched from the sidelines as he is still recuperating from an injured right hand he suffered while playing for Mighty Sports in Dubai.

Alab, still in third spot despite a seventh loss in 16 games, will have back to back games against Hong Kong this week. —CEDELF P. TUPAS
