The Philippine National Games is now a lucrative endeavor.

Philippine Sports Commission chair Butch Ramirez announced Thursday that the overall champion of the PNG late this year would earn P10 million in cash bonuses.

“It will serve as an incentive for those local government units that spent time, effort and money to prepare their athletes for the PNG,” said Ramirez during the Southern Tagalog leg of the touring Sports Caravan.

Sports Caravan project director and PSC chief of staff Ronnel Abrenica said sports administrators and provincial representatives from the Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions attended the event in Lipa City.

The bonus scheme will also award the other top nine LGUs with the second placer earning P9 million and the third overall pocketing P8 million—all the way to P1 million for the 10th placer.

“We heard from most sports officials that they’re spending a huge amount for the training of their athletes and it will motivate the LGUs to perform better if the PSC will offer incentives,” said PSC commissioner Ramon Fernandez.
