Kim Dy wards off concerns about sprained ankle

De La Salle talisman Kim Kianna Dy on Thursday said there is no need to worry after she sprained her left ankle in their game against University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.

The Lady Spikers were holding a 6-4 lead in the third period when Dy tweaked her left ankle after falling awkwardly following a block attempt.

“I’m okay now and it’s not a major injury,” said Dy who finished with 12 points in their 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 win over the Golden Tigresses at Filoil Flying V Centre.

“It cracked but when I tried to straighten it out and I got up, I felt okay.”

Though she couldn’t play the rest of the match, Dy said she was confident her teammates could pull off the win and that substitute Arriane Layug was capable of filling in the opposite spiker role.

“Of course I was confident we can still win and whoever subbed in for me can do her job,” said Dy, who averages 12 points a game for La Salle. “I trust whoever coach puts in.”

With the win, La Salle notched its 10th win in 12 games and clinched a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
