De Guzman, men’s nat’l team put on show in Clash of Heroes
Wanting to move out of the shadow of their women’s counterparts, the national men’s volleyball pool members went all out in Monday night’s Clash of Heroes at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The teams fought to a five-setter that looked more like a sudden-death playoffs than an exhibition match.

He said that right now, he has 10 players in mind who will be shoo-in for the 18-man national team.
That included Johnvic De Guzman, who delivered 19 points to lead Philippines-Blue to a 25-27, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 15-9 over PH-Red led by Bryan Bagunas who topscored with 24 points.

National University stalwart Bagunas, according to Acaylar, only showed up last Monday and has been absent during practices.
But those who never showed up, like Ateneo star Marck Espejo, Bonjomar Castel and Peter Torres, are all dropped from the pool.
“My patience for them ran out,” said Acaylar. “It’s obvious that they are not committed and can’t give time to the national team.”
De Guzman said he’s satisfied with the way his teammates performed.
“They showed fighting heart and willingness to dedicate themselves for the national team,” said de Guzman.
Starring in a few movies and TV shows, De Guzman said becoming part of the national team is “a once in a lifetime experience I can’t be replaced.
