San Diego forges tie for lead

Local hope Marie Antoinette San Diego bested fellow Woman Fide Master Juwita Ardelia Sharfina in the seventh round Friday to tie Chinese Ruotong Chu for the lead in the girls’ division of the Eastern Asia Juniors Chess Championships in Tagaytay City.

The 18-year-old San Diego climbed to 5.5 points, the same total posted by the top-seeded Chu, who was held to a draw by Filipino WFM Shania Mae Mendoza.

Indonesian FM Novendra Priasmoro kept the solo lead in the boys’ division despite a draw with Filipino Jeth Romy Morado. —ROY LUARCA
