Holloway ‘perfect fit’ for GlobalPort, says Pumaren

Murphy Holloway was exactly what GlobalPort was looking for in an import.

Holloway provided the muscle and inside presence on both ends, bullying his way to 29 points, 26 rebounds, two steals and three blocks in close to 42 minutes of action.

Despite Holloway’s gaudy numbers in his PBA debut, his head coach Franz Pumaren said the stocky forward’s best is yet to come after joining the team just five days ago.

“Our import just arrived last Friday. He only practiced with us for only a couple of minutes. He practiced a little with us yesterday because he was throwing up. Despite that, he pushed himself to finish the game,” said Pumaren after the Batang Pier held off the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 100-91, on Wednesday night.

The 27-year-old Holloway replaced Jabril Trawick, who played his first and last game on Friday after scoring just three points in a loss to Rain or Shine.

Pumaren had high praise for Holloway, who also excels in a different sport.

“He’s a former NFL player. That’s why despite his size, he’s agile and fleet-footed,” said Pumaren. “He showed a glimpse of what he can do.”

Holloway was signed to play tight end for the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL) in May 2013 but was cut four days later.

“I guess we found the perfect fit for us.”
