DAVAO—A dazzling 160-point performance anchored on the 57 of Jayvie Agojo boosted Manila Southwoods-Masters to a whopping lead of 32 over closest pursuer Del Monte in the championship division of the sixth Philippine Airlines (PAL) Ladies Interclub tournament at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club Wednesday.

Agojo, who missed at least three easy birdies putts in the first round, drained two birdies on the front nine then added two more on both par-3s from way out of the back side to grab the individual lead at 109 after two rounds at the short 5,098-yard course.

Miya Legaspi contributed a 52 and Lora Roberto counted as the third score with a 51 for 160, as Southwoods posted a 314 total overall in the four-to-play, three-to-count format of the event, which was revived by organizer Philippine Airlines (PAL) this year after years of clamor from the lady golfers around the country.

“We are ahead but we’ll not be complacent,” said Southwoods captain Beachie Abiera.

Del Monte, which only trailed by four at the start of the second round, failed to keep up with the balanced scoring of the Southwoods’ ladies. Eva Miñoza, sister of revered pro Frankie Miñoza, put in a team best 46. Twelve-year-old Rainstar Roque had a 45 and Kristine Leonen contributed 41.

Negros squad also pulled away from Alabang in the Founders Division as Anya Tanpinco churned out a 54; Gaby Monfort, a 43; and Maite Lustre, a 39 to give the Bacolod-based squad 136 for the day and a 268 aggregate.
