NLEX-SCTEX goes winless in Merlion Cup

NLEX-SCTEX will come home empty handed as it lost all of its three games in the 2017 Merlion Cup at OCBC Arena in Singapore.
The Road Warriors fell to Indonesian crew Satria Muda Pertamina, 104-90, on Friday to end their campaign in the seven-team invitational tournament with another defeat.
Jason Perkins carried the fight for NLEX-SCTEX with 32 points and 15 rebounds, while Byron Villarias shot 6-of-11 from threes to pour 26 markers in the campaign-ending defeat.
NLEX-SCTEX, which is made up of the core of the Cignal HD Hawkeyes which won the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, went 0-3 in the group stages.
It first got routed by Korean club team Jeonji KCC Egis, 79-99, on Wednesday, before succumbing to defending champion Shanghai Sharks, 65-79, on Thursday.
Despite NLEX-SCTEX’s winless outing, the 6-foot-3 Perkins impressed in the tournament, averaging 24.67 points and 13.67 rebounds to gain steam entering the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft.
