New leaders eyed for POC
The national sports associations (NSAs) should take advantage of the Philippine Olympic Committee elections this Friday to select new leaders and institute reforms needed to lift local sports out of the doldrums.
Citing the continuous decline of local sports in the global arena, Party-list Rep. Mikee Romero (1Pacman) on Tuesday said he’s hoping that all NSA heads, especially those aligned with POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Jr., will be enlightened that this is the right time to chart the new course of Philippine sports.
“With the sad state of Philippine sports, change in the POC leadership is long overdue,” said Romero, vice chair of the Youth and Sports committee.
Romero said the current leadership has failed to give the athletes the support they needed to be competitive in international events.
