JPV edges depleted Global Cebu
JPV Marikina emerged solo leader after the opening weekend of the Philippines Football League following a stunning 2-1 triumph over Global Cebu on Saturday at Marikina Sports Center.
New Japanese signings Keigo Moriyasu and Ryuki Kozawa scored in each half, before Dom Del Rosario pulled a goal back late for the Cebu side, which missed top goalkeeper Pat Deyto and Rufo Sanchez.
Finally making its debut on its home field, JPV got its season off strongly start with Moriyasu banging in the opener in the 13th minute, while Kozawa netted the second goal 15 minutes from time.
Over at Davao Del Norte Sports Complex, James Younghusband struck twice in a seven-minute span in the second half as the Davao Aguilas salvaged a 2-2 draw against Kaya Iloilo.
