Pons, Galanza take breather during Holy Week lull
If there are players in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament who opted to train during the Holy Week—cue La Salle and Ateneo—there were also some used the short break to get some much needed breather.
Captains of their respective teams, Bernadeth Pons and Jema Galanza chose to use Good Friday and Black Saturday as their own version of a long weekend.

Galanza said she’d be with her family and go to their hometown of Liliw, Laguna where she’d spend the Holy Week the traditional Catholic way.
“This will be only time that I will get to spend some time with my family and we’ll go to the province to relax a little bit,” said the Adamson skipper in Filipino. “We’d all be in the house together then we’ll go to church and join the procession.”

If Galanza’s hometown of Laguna is just a few hours away from Manila, Pons’ home province of Negros Occcidental is situated on a whole other island group.
The FEU leader said she chose to spend her break alone in Manila, but she didn’t forget to fulfill her Catholic duties as she plans to go the different churches in the capital.
“I can’t go back home because it’s just a few days and the fare is also very expensive,” said Pons in Filipino. “I’ll just go to church here in Manila, and spend time in the dorm.”
