After a tough loss to reigning UAAP champion Ateneo, the Gilas Cadets’ schedule in the Filoil preseason tournament doesn’t get easier with powerhouse La Salle next.

Rivero, who is emerging as one of the young Nationals’ top players, didn’t deny that the game against his former team is something he’s been waiting for.

“I’m looking forward to it because everyone wants to face La Salle. Before, all of our opponents are eager to beat La Salle and they bring out their best against La Salle and that’s what I’m feeling now,” said Rivero, who played two seasons for the Green Archers, including a championship run in 2016, after a 75-69 loss to the Blue Eagles.

Rivero, who was instrumental in La Salle’s return to the UAAP Finals in Season 80 before losing to Ateneo in three games, was cut from the team along with his older brother Prince and Brent Paraiso for violating a newly-imposed school guideline regarding endorsement deals.

After a two-month whirlwind filled with rumors and controversies, Rivero put the brakes on what had been a rollercoaster ride by finally announcing his decision to leave La Salle earlier this month.

But despite an abrupt end to his playing days at La Salle, Rivero cleared he has no ill feelings toward the school.

“I’m gonna prepare for it (the game), but there’s no negative thing about playing against La Salle,” said Rivero, who led his team with 17 points that went with four rebounds, three assists, one steal and a block but had seven turnovers.
