Macandili caught off guard by UAAP Finals MVP award

The smallest player on the court went on to have the biggest impact in the grandest stage.

Dawn Macandili never saw it coming but the La Salle libero deserved to win the Finals MVP award after helping the Lady Spikers win their third consecutive volleyball title on Wednesday night.

“I was left speechless and I never expected to win the Finals MVP,” Macandili told reporters.

But her numbers speak for herself.

She had 24 excellent digs off 31 attempts in Game 1 and 21 digs from 29 attempts in Game 2.

La Salle never dropped a set against FEU in the finals, but needing only six sets to win the crown doesn’t translate to how hard the series was for the Lady Spikers.

“When FEU tied the game in the third set, I just told my teammates to keep working and be more patient and our hard work will eventually pay off,” Macandili said.

Macandili ended her UAAP playing career the best possible way. Though, it seems that it hasn’t sunk in yet.

“Right after the game, I really felt weak and I had to double check the score,” she said. “Then, I told myself it’s finally done and all our hard work has paid off.”
