Jerwin Ancajas beat Jonas Sultan in a historic all-Filipino world title fight to keep the IBF super flyweight crown in the main event Sunday (Manila time) at Save Smart Center in Fresno, California, USA.

The 26-year-old Ancajas successfully defended his belt for the fifth straight time.

FEATURED STORIES

The bout marked the first time in 93 years that two Filipinos fought for the world title since the great Pancho Villa beat Clever Sencio.

Ancajas (30-1-1, 20 KOs) picked up the pace in the championship rounds, especially in the 12th where he peppered Sultan with combinations to the body and head.

Sultan had futile success with the methodical Ancajas choosing his spots and punching with accuracy. He had his moments in the third round where he caught Ancajas with an overhand right.

But it was all Ancajas from there as Sultan suffered the fourth loss of his career that halted his five-fight win streak.

Ancajas could face undefeated British Khalid Yafai next in a title unification fight. Yafai (24-0, 15 KOs) stopped Mexican David Carmona in the co-featured bout to retain the WBA belt.
