Emotions have been getting the better of JP Erram lately.

That, however, is the only thing that could keep the Blackwater big man from being a consistent force in the PBA.

Good thing, Erram has a teammate in Henry Walker, who makes sure that his emotions are always in check.

“I look at Poy like my little brother. I see so much in myself,” said Walker on Wednesday.

“He’s got that passion, that fire. He wants to be successful, he wants to be a great player and I had to tell him, for me the biggest thing that I learned in the PBA is you gotta control your emotions because the game swings either way,” he added. “You may be down 10 or up 10. It swings. Guys play hard to as long as he keeps his emotions in check and he’s focused, he’s a beast and that’s what we need.”

This time, Erram kept his focus on the game and the result was 19 points, 15 rebounds and an 86-84 win by Blackwater over Magnolia—the Elite’s first after starting the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup at 0-7.

Erram said Walker has been a calming presence that has been a big help to his game.

“Henry is a leader. He’s not like other imports. He’s very vocal and he wants everyone to have confidence and play at a high level. I can see how passionate he is,” said Erram, who made the game-tying basket off a nifty assist by Walker with under a minute left.

“He always talks to me and I always go to him whenever I’m getting frustrated. We all know the kind of experience he has throughout his career so every time something happens, I go to him and he calms me down. That really means a lot to me as a player and my career.”
