BACOLOD CITY—Powerhouse teams from Cebu, Davao and Bacolod loom as favorites in the Seaoil Elite League national finals unfolding today at the West Negros University Gym here.

The initial cast of 168 teams that competed in area tournaments have been reduced to 16 for the three-day national finals, the kickoff ceremony of which will be keynoted by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Sonny Barrios.

The opening is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. with Seaoil executive Rey Jimenez, WNU president Oscar Suarez and WNU sports head Tony Agustin among the guests, but games will start as early as 8:30 a.m.

The opening-day pairings, however, will be determined after the drawing of lots scheduled last night.
