AJ asks officials to rally behind PH team

04:59 AM August 07, 2018

National tennis player Alberto “AJ” Lim is appealing to officials to smoke the peace pipe to enable the sport to bounce back.

Lim, currently training in the United States in preparation for the Asian Games in Indonesia, said tennis is fast losing its popularity due to infighting.

“Tennis will continue to sink deeper,” said Lim, one of six members of the Philippine team to the Aug. 18 to Sept. 2 Games in Jakarta and Palembang. “Which direction are we going to follow? I’m really confused.”

Jeson Patrombon and Francis Casey Alcantara will join the 19-year-old Lim in the men’s side while Marian Capadocia and Katharina Melissa Lehnert complete the PH squad.

Instead of supporting Philippine Tennis Association president Antonio Cablitas, Lim lamented there are people trying to undermine whatever good the Philta chief has been doing to the association.

“Atty. Cablitas spends his own money for our foreign exposures,” said Lim.

Cablitas was elected to lead the association last year but it was not recognized by then Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco, Jr.

The presidential adviser on investments is hoping new POC president Ricky Vargas will finally recognize him.
