NCAA: Lyceum rolls to 7th straight win after nipping St. Benilde
Lyceum turned on the jets in the fourth quarter to beat College of St. Benilde, 77-65, and stay perfect in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
With CJ Perez running the show anew, the Pirates to rolled their seventh straight win to move within two wins away from a first round sweep.
Article continues after this advertisement“The guys just didn’t give up. We’re always going to be challenged and it’s always gonna come to a where we need to bring our best,” said Lyceum coach Topex Robinson.
Perez collected 22 points, 12 rebounds and five steals while Mike Nzeusseu also posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds with five blocks to boot.
Jaycee Marcelino also stepped up with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Pirates stepped on the gas after trailing the Blazers early in the third quarter. An eight-point spurt in just a span of 24 seconds pushed Lyceum ahead for good.
Justin Gutang and Edward Dixon had 13 points apiece for CSB as its star big man Clement Leutcheu was held to just eight points and nine rebounds due to foul trouble.
The Blazers reeled to their second consecutive defeat and dropped to 2-4.
