NCAA: Blazers rout Generals, end 2-game skid
College of St. Benilde used a big second quarter to crush Emilio Aguinaldo College, 84-71, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Blazers pulled away from a tight game in the second quarter, where they dominated the Generals, 26-11.
Article continues after this advertisementJJ Domingo broke out of his scoring slump as he unleashed a game-high 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field on top of seven rebounds and four assists.
“We know he (Domingo) can score and its just a matter of patience. I hope he counties to dish out this kind of games,” said CSB head coach TY Tang.
Domingo has been struggling this season, scoring only 13 total points heading into the game against the Generals, as per league statistician Pong Ducanes.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Blazers (3-4) stopped a two-game slide and they did it by executing on offense and clamping down on defense.
They shot 48 percent from the field while holding the Generals to just 33 percent and forcing them to turn the ball over 30 times.
Yankee Haruna added 11 points for CSB, which won convincingly despite going 12-of-22 from the free throw line and getting outrebounded, 60-31.
Jess Bautista led EAC (2-5), which saw its streak end at two games, with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Hamadou Laminou also posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
