NCAA: Letran retaliates, dumps Mapua

Letran let out its ire and pounded a struggling Mapua side, 84-63, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Five Knights reached double-digit scoring with guard JP Calvo leading the way with a game-high 20 points while Bong Quinto recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

The Knights bounced back from two heartbreaking losses at the hands of league-leading Lyceum on Friday and defending champion San Beda on August 10.

Calvo scored 14 of his points in the first half, where Letran established control leading, 42-25, at the break.

Larry Muyang added a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds while Bon Batiller and Chris Fajarito chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Knights.

Letran tied College of St. Benilde in fourth place at 5-3 and dealt Mapua its seventh loss in nine outings.

Arvin Gamboa had 13 points for the Cardinals, who were outrebounded, 67-35, and trailed by as much as 26.
