Meggie Ochoa makes history, wins gold in World Championships

Filipino Margarita “Meggie” Ochoa ruled the world stage anew after winning a gold medal in the JuJutsu World Championship early Sunday morning  (Manila time) at Baltiska hallen in Malmö, Sweden.

Ochoa made history for the Philippines after conquering the women’s seniors 49-kilogram class when she beat Ni Ni Vicky Hoang of Canada, 2-0, in the final.

It’s been a fruitful year for Ochoa, who also won gold in the Jiujitsu World Tour in London last March before taking the bronze in the Asian Games in Indonesia three months ago.

The 28-year-old Ochoa got her campaign going by outclassing Morgane Houx of France, 4-0, to make the quarterfinals where she toppled Anna Augustyn of Poland, 2-0.

Ochoa then, submitted Laetitia Boes of France in the semifinals.
