Doroy stays in top 10
The Philippines’ Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia Doroy halved the point with Woman International Master Dewi Ardhiani Citra of Indonesia to remain in the top 10 after five rounds of the seventh Asian Continental Chess Championships (second Manny Pacquiao Cup) at Tiara Hotel in Makati Friday night.
Doroy, 17, hiked her total to three points to keep a share of 10th spot with six others and remained as the country’s best performer in this tournament.
The National University mainstay was playing No. 16 WIM Gu Tianlu of China in the sixth round at press time.
Article continues after this advertisementIndian IM Ruot Padmin trounced WFM Turmunkh Munkhzul of Mongolia to claim the solo lead with 4.5 points. Munkhzul is the player who dealt Doroy her only defeat thus far.
But Doroy has since gone on an upset spree against tougher opponents.
