Fronda, De Guzman best Pinoy finishers

Woman International Master Jane Jodilyn Fronda and IM Ricky de Guzman drew with their respective foes to emerge the best-placed Filipinos in the 17th Asian Continental Chess Championships (2nd Manny Pacquiao Cup) Tuesday.

Fronda drew with IM Guo Qi of China to finish with five points and in 16th overall in the women’s field while de Guzman, 58, settled for a standoff with GM Abhimanyu Puranik of India to collect five points and finished 23rd among men.

Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna also ended up with five points but fell to 18th on tiebreaks.
