Kevin Alas says latest ACL injury 'will only make me more resilient and much stronger'

Kevin Alas had just come back from an ACL injury that sidelined him for 10 months and the NLEX guard vowed to overcome it again.

In a case of tough luck, Alas suffered the same injury on the same knee just five games upon his long-awaited return.

“I re-tore the ACL in my right knee at Ynares Antipolo. It was the exact same venue and the exact same side of the court where I suffered the same injury, less than a year ago,” Alas posted on his Instagram account Monday night.

“I admit this is very depressing and frustrating because I worked my ass off for the past 10 months just to be healthy and to be at my peak shape. I even did all I could to prevent this from happening again,” he wrote. “This is a tough situation for me, but tough times don’t last. This will only make me more resilient and much stronger.”

The 27-year-old Alas hurt his right knee in the Road Warriors’ win over the Meralco Bolts on Saturday.

Last year, Alas was on a steady rise to becoming one of the best guards in the PBA when he sustained his first ACL tear.

This time, Alas was slowly regaining his old explosive self when he hurt his knee again.

“I honestly don’t know the plans of God for me but I trust our Lord God Almighty that he is preparing me for something greater and bigger,” he said.

The 6-foot Alas, who is averaging 8.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and a steal in five games this conference, doesn’t want to dwell on his latest setback and instead, he is already looking forward to his recovery no matter how grueling it’s going to be.

“The goal now is to move forward, recover, get healthy and attack my rehab again,” he said.
