UAAP: La Salle survives NU to keep unbeaten record alive

MANILA, Philippines—De La Salle breathed a sigh of relief after holding off National University, 25-10, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22., in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Center.
Faced with rookies eager to earn a name for themselves, the Lady Spikers took a step backward, dropping the second set before coming at full strength mainly through veteran Desiree Cheng and new recruit Lourdes Clemente.
Cheng accounted for 12 points although she started scoring only in the third frame, while new middle blocker Clemente contributed five points when the chips are down in the same set.
Clemente, a former national team stalwart, scored her first points since transferring from Perpetual in NCAA, including an ce for first set point for La Salle, 24-23.
Princess Robles poured in 18 points as she served as ring-leader for the upset-minded Lady Bulldogs who kept the Lady Spikers on their toes all afternoon.
The reigning champions maintained their hold of the top spot with 3-0 record while NU dropped to 1-2.
