Pacquiao could find a foe after March 16

/ 05:30 AM March 09, 2019

No excitement whatsoever. There’s hardly a mention of this brewing prizefight classic here at home. After it was mentioned Manny Pacquiao could be a guest at ringside for the world welterweight championship bout between Errol Spence Jr. and Mikey Garcia, there should be enough Pinoy fans asking what’s it all about.

It’s been tagged a must-see event, between unbeaten top pay-per-view stars.

Spence, 29, is 24-0, with 21 knockouts.

Garcia, 31, is 39-0, with 30 knockouts.

FEATURED STORIES

The title clash at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will be for Spence’s IBF welterweight title on March 16.

Garcia, shorter by four inches than the 5-foot-10 Spence, opened as a 4-1 underdog.

A four-division world titlist, Garcia, the IBF/WBC lightweight champion, is moving two divisions up for the challenge.

The odds have however started to narrow down as the fight neared.

The fight was deemed a mission impossible for Garcia; a fool’s errand, as some pundits would put it.

But WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman gave a startling salute. He said Spence-Garcia could be like Duran-Leonard, or Chavez-Taylor.

The winner, needless to say, would be very qualified to be Pacquiao’s next foe, after the wild chase for Floyd Mayweaher Jr. has started to lose clear direction.

Whether Pacquiao attends the Spence-Garcia fight or not, the fighting senator, reigning WBA welterweight champion, should next have a clear idea of what his possible next foe could be like.

The winner of the Spence-Garcia fight could also rise up as the best pound for pound boxer of the period.
