Malaya FC scores victory in Euro tourney

Youth club Malaya FC won one of its matches in the U16 level of the Mediterranean International Cup (MIC) held recently in Spain’s Costa Brava region. Malaya FC, the only Southeast Asian team in the event, edged Barcelona’s Sant Ignasi, 2-1, then lost to Juventus Football Academy, 2-1. The team capped its stint on the receiving end of a 12-0 rout from the boys of eventual champion La Masia, FC Barcelona’s famed football academy. “Of course, we would have preferred a better result,” said Malaya FC secretary general Mark Duane Angos. “However, our primary goal in joining the MIC is for the boys to experience and be inspired by the level of football played by their peers in Europe.”

Jendo applies for POC membership

The Philippine Jendo Association (PJA) is applying for associate membership with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC). According to its website, jendo “is a fast-rising traditional style of martial arts” utilizing bare hands and feet and the traditional Filipino stick and bladed weapons associated with arnis, pang-or, bangkaw, itak, bolo and punyal as a means to defend oneself. POC secretary general Patrick Gregorio has advised PJA to complete the requirements needed for a membership committee review. Any group contesting the legitimacy of PJA can present its objection with POC 15 days after this publication, according to PJA.
