Jerwin Ancajas to be feted with prestigious plum by IBF

MANILA, Philippines—Jerwin Ancajas, the International Boxing Federation super flyweight champion, is reportedly set to gain more recognition following his seven-round obliteration of Japanese challenger Ryuichi Funai two weeks ago in Stockton, California.
Ancajas will be bestowed with the Jersey Joe Walcott award, the highest honor given by the IBF in its 36th Annual Convention on May 30 at Wynn Palace Cotai in Macau.
The 27-year-old Ancajas is still on vacation in the US in Las Vegas with trainer and manager Joven Jimenez.
Ancajas has successfully defended his belt seven times since winning it in September 2016 when he beat McJoe Arroyo of Puerto Rico by unanimous decision.
Team Ancajas returns to Manila from Los Angeles on Tuesday.
According to reports, Top Rank chief Bob Arum said undefeated Australian Andrew Moloney will be Ancajas’ next opponent.
