Kenyans rule ‘vertical’ race
MANILA, Philippines—Kenyans ruled anew in the Discovery Channel Vertical 10K Run recently at the Stamford Executive Residences in McKinley Hill, Taguig City.
Philip Ronoh topped the men’s division with a time of 40 minutes and three seconds, beating closest pursuer Reggie Lumawag by five minutes.
Irene Kipchumba clocked 49:52 in the women’s side to edge second-placer Ann Barcena (51:25).
Article continues after this advertisementRonoh and Kipchumba—two of several Kenyans regularly competing in local races—pocketed P15,000 each, months after the duo won the Mayon Trail Run and a Tarlac regional race.
But as the top Filipino finisher, Lumawag will represent the country in the Swisshotel Vertical Marathon in Singapore this year.
Aver Sister (48:32) rounded up the podium finishers in the men’s race, while Luisa Ratera (52:07) ranked third in the women’s division.
