Lady Falcons score, barge into s’finals
ADAMSON MADE quick work of Lyceum, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17, Sunday night to join San Sebastian-Excelroof in the semifinals of the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 Second Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan. Angela Benting fired 16 points as the Lady Falcons notched their sixth straight victory and gained a share of top spot with the Lady Stags, who earlier clinched a berth in the last four with a straight-sets win over Far Eastern U. Both Adamson, which missed out on a semifinal berth in the first conference, and San Sebastian jacked up their records to 8-2. “We want to continue this streak,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante in Filipino. “I’m confident we can play better up until the semifinals.” The Lady Pirates fell to 5-4 but remained on track of clinching the last semifinal berth. The Lady Tamaraws, at 4-5, still have a chance to dislodge the Lady Pirates, while National U is nursing faint hopes of making the next round after falling to 2-7. Adamson neutralized Lyceum star Mary Jean Balse and coasted to victory in an hour and 12 minutes. Balse, who scored a conference-high 37 points in the win over Ateneo last Thursday, was held to just 11 this time by a rock-solid Adamson defense. Benting drew solid support from guest players Nerissa Bau-tista and Michelle Laborte, who combined for 25 points, while Pau Soriano tossed in nine, three off blocks. Dahlia Cruz had 13 points for Lyceum, which scored just 28 points off attacks.
