Showcasing their class and pedigree, Alvaro Silva and Angel Guirado found the back of the net for their clubs as they highlighted a big weekend for Filipino players in the Thai Premier League.

Playing just his fourth match for Suphanburi, Silva scored with a bullet of a header in the 29th minute to help his club secure a 1-0 win over No. 8 Trat last Saturday at Suphanburi Municipal Stadium.

Together with former Global and Stallion goalkeeper Patrick Deyto, who started for the second straight weekend, Silva helped Suphanburi keep a third consecutive clean sheet that also lifted Suphanburi to 15th, level on points with Sukhothai, which features another Azkal in Iain Ramsay.

Signed by Chonburi along with compatriot Curt Dizon last week, Guirado seems to have found a new lease on his career after coming in as a substitute in a 2-0 victory over Prachuap.

The 34-year-old Guirado, who has scored nine goals in 33 appearances for the national team, helped seal the win with a 78th minute header as Chonburi leapfrogged past Ratchaburi to move up to ninth with 26 points from 20 matches.

Former Ceres-Negros captain Martin Steuble also started at left back for Port FC, which ended an eight-match winless run as it nipped Ramsay’s Sukhothai, 1-0, while Marco Casambre and Adam Reed starred for Chainat Hornbill in a 2-1 upset over PTT Rayong.

Kevin Ingreso also made an impact as he started for leaders Buriram United, which clobbered Samut Prakan City, 4-1, in a battle of top teams.

While Ingreso and Stephan Palla look in prime position to win the Thai League with Buriram, goalkeeper Michael Falkesgaard could be headed for another heartbreaking campaign as Bangkok United dropped points anew following a 2-2 draw with Nakhon Ratchasima.

Ratchaburi Mitr Pohl, led by Javier Patiño, also lost to Muangthong United, 1-2, over the weekend.
