Carlo Biado rules Bali tilt, bags P270,000

Filipino cue master Carlo Biado subdued compatriot Roberto Gomez, 11-5, in their final duel Sunday night to rule the 2012 Green Garden 9 balls Open in Bali, Indonesia.

The 28-year-old Biado, former caddie-turned-billiard player from La Union, pocketed $6,500 (about P279,000) as he continued to bolster his stock in the local and international billiards stage.

Biado also emerged champion in the 2011 BSCP National Pool Championships last November at the Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City.

He also beat Taiwanese ace Chang Jung-lin, 9-7, in the Philippine Bigtime Billiards (PBB) Face Off Series last December at the Pagcor Airport Casino in Parañaque City.

Biado broke into prominence when he bested former world titlists, Ronato Alcano in the round of 32 match, Daryl Peach of Great Britain in the last 16 and Dennis Orcollo in the quarterfinals of the 2011 World Ten-Ball Championships, only to bow to China’s Fu Jianbo, 9-5, in the semifinals of the event held in Manila.

Zamboanga City pride Gomez, also a stalwart of Bugsy Promotions like Biado, settled for the runner-up purse of $2,500.

Bugsy Promotions honcho Ceferino “Perry” Mariano, said Biado deserves better recognition as he is “the most underrated player today.” said sportsman/businessman Perry Mariano.

Orcollo skipped the event to focus on his match against Chang in the PBB Face Off Series on March 10. Other Filipinos who competed were Jeffrey de Luna, Jundel Mazon and Rodrigo Geronimo.
