Jonathan Tiu likely out as Clark speedway hosts drag race

MANILA, Philippines—Drag racing takes the spotlight as over 100 top speedsters compete for the titles at stake in the second leg of the 2012 Philippine Drag Racing Championships Northern Series at the Clark International Speedway Saturday.

It will be another wild showdown in the Quick 8, the M&H Super Pro and the M&H Pro classes with the possible no-show of points leader Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.

Tiu could miss the event to grieve the death of his friend and teammate Anthony Go, who succumbed to heart attack at age 38.

Drag Racing director Fil Gulfin urges all drivers to come early for the drivers’ briefing at 8 a.m. where rules and regulations and other pertinent race matters will be discussed.

And with the expected huge field joining the races, Gulfin strongly suggests that drivers arrive much earlier to enjoy more time to test and adjust their car setups in the qualifying runs.

Drivers are also urged to observe utmost safety with the strict implementation of safety gears like helmets, race suits and the required roll cages in their cars especially for those competing in higher classes that runs 12 seconds or faster.
