The Philippine women’s volleyball team—albeit missing three key players—plays its final tuneup tournament starting Tuesday when the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Super Cup gets off the ground at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Fresh from a 12-day training camp in Japan, the Nationals clash with PSL Shine at 5 p.m. right before the collision between University of Tsukuba and PSL Sparkle in the 7 p.m. match.

The tournament is aimed at enabling the Nationals to get more time playing together as a team with the 30th Southeast Asian Games just over three weeks away.

Belonging to the rival Premier Volleyball League, Alyssa Valdrez, Jia Morado and Maddie Madayag won’t be playing in this event, something which coaching staff feels would hamper the development of the team.

FEATURED STORIES

Valdez and Morado have commitments with Creamline, which starts its PVL title series with PetroGazz on Wednesday.

Team Philippines has not won a medal since a bronze in 2005.
